About Atsuki Fukutani
Atsuki Fukutani
Born on May 7, 1982, from Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan
I joined a local soccer club when I was in my third year in elementary school and continued playing soccer until I graduated from university. Thereafter, I worked as a personal trainer in a fitness club in the Kansai area, providing training and instructions to improve diet and enhance performance and function in older people. After working as a personal trainer for 3 years, I enrolled in the Graduate School of Sport Sciences of Waseda University and studied biomechanics. My research topic was on the skeletal muscle, and I have been working consistently for more than 10 years now on research into the stretch-shortening cycle. After obtaining my doctorate, I began working in the Faculty of Sport and Health Science, Ritsumeikan University, and I undertook research at the University of Calgary, Canada, in 2014, 2016, and 2017. I am currently engaged in research and education as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Sport and Health Science, Ritsumeikan University. My current interest is to clarify the mechanism of muscle contraction and adaptation with resistance training, and I am continuing with resistance training to attain my personal best record (bench press, 120 kg; squat, 160 kg).
